About our presenter: 

Joanne H. Twombly, MSW, LICSW (she/her/hers) is a psychotherapist in private practice in Arlington, MA. She has over thirty years of experience working with C-PTSD and dissociative disorders, and provides trainings and consultation. She has written on EMDR and Dissociative Disorders, EMDR and Internal Family Systems, and on working with perpetrator introjects. Her commitment to helping her clients heal and to providing quality training has resulted in her becoming an EMDR Consultant and a Trauma and Recovery Humanitarian Assistance Program Facilitator, Internal Family Systems Certified, and an American Society for Clinical Hypnosis Consultant. She is a past president of the New England Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. In recognition of her achievements and her service on committees and the Board of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) she was honored with ISSTD's Distinguished Achievement Award and is an ISSTD Fellow.

Course Description: This 2-day workshop will provide participants with an overview for diagnosis & treatment of complex PTSD & dissociative disordered (DD) clients. Through lecture & case examples, clarification will be given on how to work effectively & safely with this population, and with clients who might not be making progress din traditional treatment.

 

On Day 1: There will be didactic presentation on diagnosis, the 3 phases of trauma treatment, followed by didactic on adaptations of resources from the preparation and closure phases of EMD to facilitate stabilization, orient DD clients to the present, and decrease negative transferences. Participants will have the opportunity for practicums on stabilization & orienting exercises.

 

On Day 2: Didactic material will be presented on a protective format for processing traumatic material that can be used with or without EMDR. Following that, material will be presented on the impact of sadistic abuse, non-verbal communication and the necessity of reenactments in the treatment process. An EMDR protocol for processing one’s countertransference reactions will be taught, as well as an Internal Family Systems process. Following a practicum on countertransference reactions, there will be time for discussion and case consultation.

 

This workshop is appropriate for EMDR trained clinicians as well as for clinicians with no EMDR training.

During this training, you will be provided two 15 minute breaks as well as 1.5 hours for lunch each day. Training Materials will be provided prior to the training to include Power Point slides.

 

Virtual Training Requirements: Trainees must have access to reliable internet in an undistracted location which supports you being fully engaged and present training. This training cannot be attended by audio and telephone only. The trainer and trainee must be able to see each other. You must have access to a laptop or desktop with a built in webcam. You will need to use the zoom link provided and have access to the Power Point slides provided.

Continuing Education credits:

Continuing Education Credits: AEI is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. AEI maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.

 

The following disciplines will receive Continuing Education Credit following completion: Social Workers, Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists

 

To receive CE’s: you must request this on the registration form. There is a separate fee of $25.00, which is paid upon registration.

 

To receive your CE certificate: you will need to complete the post test & evaluation. AEI, our co sponsor will be sending you the certificate directly.

EMDRIA Credits: VCRN & Terry Becker-Fritz are co-sponsoring this event for EMDRIA Credits. You must be licensed eligible & have written approval from your supervisor to take this training or be fully licensed. You must be fully trained in EMDR to receive EMDRIA credits. There is no fee for EMDRIA credits.

 

To receive your EMDRIA credits: you must complete the evaluation. Terry Becker-Fritz is sponsoring this training & will be sending you the certificate directly.
